Weekends are the most awaited time of the week and the slower they come the faster they pass by.

The whole purpose of it is to recharge and rejuvenate before diving into the upcoming week. So its only natural to give some thought as to how to get the weekending journey right.

For many of us, a typical weekend involves curling up on the couch, binge-watching Netflix, endlessly scrolling through social media feeds, or engaging in activities that we didn’t actively choose.

However, I’ve come to realize that being intentional is a powerful gift we can give ourselves, and I’ve started implementing this mindset in all areas of my life.

So, let’s shift our focus from a simple list of things to try on the weekend to a deeper philosophical perspective.

I will provide you with some pointers on how to make the most of your weekend, empowering you to decide for yourself what you truly want to do.

Start with a boring activity

What I mean by this is to begin your weekend with a more subdued and introspective activity. By doing so, you create space to reflect on the events and experiences of the past week, as well as cultivate a sense of presence in the current moment. Here are a couple of activities that can help stimulate this introspective mindset:

  1. Go for a walk
  2. Practice mindfulness

Consolidating your worries and to-do’s is indeed a helpful trick. Sometimes, our entire goal for the week revolves around reaching the weekend to tackle our to-do list, only to realize that time has slipped away, leaving us trapped in a cycle of increasing chores and worries. To break free from this loop, it’s essential to list everything that’s been weighing on your mind, just like an itch you can’t ignore, and tackle them one by one. Here are some activities that can assist you in this process:

  1. Create a to-do list: By organizing them into a tangible list, you’ll have a clear roadmap to follow and a sense of accomplishment as you tick off each item.
  2. Journaling or stream-of-consciousness writing: Allow your thoughts and emotions to flow freely onto paper. Write without judgment or restraint, letting your innermost feelings and concerns pour out.
  3. Vent to a friend: Sometimes, a good old-fashioned rant can do wonders.

Challenge yourself

Change is an inherent and constant aspect of life that keeps us on our toes. However, it is common for many people to feel apprehensive about change, as it disrupts familiar routines and demands adaptability.

Our brains tend to favor the well-worn paths and resist the effort required to forge new ones. Yet, in order to embrace change and maintain a sense of calm amidst it, it is essential to step out of our comfort zones and engage in activities we haven’t pursued in a while. By doing so, we stimulate our brains to navigate diverse situations, fostering the formation of new neural connections.

This willingness to venture into unexplored territory serves a dual purpose. On one hand, it enables personal growth by demonstrating our capacity to embrace new experiences and adapt. On the other hand, engaging in novel endeavors offers an opportunity to expand our perspectives, broaden our horizons, and cultivate a more open mindset. Here are some ideas for you to try :

  1. Workout like never before
  2. Go camping
  3. Learn a new Instrument
  4. Travel
